Your first guitar is a big decision — and for a long time, "beginner acoustic" basically meant one colour: plain wood. The SageBasic changes that. It's our most affordable full-size acoustic, and it now comes in five colours, so your first guitar can actually look like yours.
SageBasic at a glance
SageBasic is a full-size 41-inch sapele dreadnought with a cutaway for easier access to the higher frets, a rosewood bridge, and closed-gear tuners that hold their tuning well — important in Singapore's humidity. It's designed to do one thing properly: get a complete beginner playing real chords without fuss or a painful price. It starts from S$99 (launch promo; usually S$110) with local Singapore stock and free delivery on any guitar. Always check the product page for today's price.
The five colours
All five share the exact same body, neck, and hardware. The only thing that changes is the finish — so pick the one that makes you want to reach for it.
- Natural — classic, warm and woody. The safe, timeless choice that never looks out of place.
- Black — clean and modern. Hides fingerprints and looks great on stage or on camera.
- Sapele — a deeper, reddish-brown grain with a bit more character than plain natural.
- Sunburst — the traditional faded-edge finish you'll recognise from countless classic acoustics.
- Dark Blue — the standout. If you want a first guitar that doesn't look like everyone else's, this is it.
Does the colour change how the guitar sounds?
Short answer: no. On a beginner acoustic like this, the colour is a finish applied over the same body and the same bracing. Tone comes from the wood, the build, and — far more than anything — the strings and the player. So you can choose purely on looks with a clear conscience. The Dark Blue plays exactly like the Natural.
This matters more than it sounds. The single biggest reason beginners stop playing isn't the guitar — it's that they stop picking it up. A guitar you genuinely like the look of, sitting out on a stand where you can see it, gets played more. Motivation is the real "feature" here.
How to choose your colour
- Buying for yourself? Pick the one you'd be happy to have on display in your room. You'll practise more if you like looking at it.
- Buying as a gift? Natural and Black are the safest crowd-pleasers. Dark Blue is the memorable, "wow" pick for someone who likes to stand out.
- Buying for a child or teen? Let them choose the colour — that small bit of ownership makes a real difference to whether they stick with it.
Is a 41-inch SageBasic right for you?
A full-size 41" body suits most teens and adults. If you're buying for a younger child (roughly ages 5–10) or someone petite, a 3/4 size is usually the more comfortable starting point — have a look at the BabySage 3/4 or read our guide on what size guitar a beginner should choose. Not sure? Our help-me-choose tool walks you through it in under a minute.

Frequently asked questions
Does the colour of a guitar affect its sound?
For a beginner acoustic like the SageBasic, no. The finish is cosmetic — it sits on top of the same body and bracing across all five colours. Sound is shaped by the wood, the build and especially the strings and the player, not the colour. Choose the look you love.
How much is the SageBasic and what is it?
The SageBasic is a full-size 41-inch sapele dreadnought acoustic with a cutaway, rosewood bridge and closed-gear tuners. It starts from S$99 (launch promo; usually S$110), with local Singapore stock and free delivery on guitars. Check the product page for the current price.
Which SageBasic colour should a beginner choose?
Whichever one you'll actually want to pick up. Natural and Black are timeless all-rounders, Sapele and Sunburst add warmth and character, and Dark Blue is the standout if you don't want a guitar that looks like everyone else's. They all play and sound the same, so choose on looks.
Is a 41-inch guitar too big for a beginner?
A full-size 41" suits most teens and adults. For younger children (around ages 5–10) or petite players, a 3/4-size guitar such as the BabySage is usually more comfortable to start on.
Can I buy the SageBasic in Singapore with local support?
Yes. SageBasic ships from local Singapore stock with free delivery on guitars, and Sage Guitar is a Woodlands-based beginner-first shop with real human support, optional beginner lessons, and a setup & service option.
