The most important things for a first guitar are comfort, playability, and a fair price. We recommend starting with an acoustic (BabySage 3/4 for smaller players, SAG001/SAG002 for adults). If fingers feel sore, a classical guitar with nylon strings is gentler. Come to our Woodlands showroom by appointment and try them in person.
Many of our customers start in their 30s, 40s, even 60s. You will not learn the way a 12-year-old prodigy does, but you will progress. Consistency beats intensity — 20 minutes daily is better than 3 hours on Sunday. Start with simple chords (G, C, D) and pick songs you love.
Nylon: gentler, warmer, shorter stretch between frets, fits classical/flamenco/fingerstyle. Steel: louder, crisper, fits pop/folk/worship. If your fingers tire quickly, try classical first. Strings can also be upgraded later — our SageCLNT (classical) and SAGEPB11/12 (acoustic) are compatible with our guitars.

Sit your child on a chair and rest the guitar on their lap. Their fretting arm should reach the first fret comfortably without stretching. If they strain, size down. Our BabySage 36" (BS001 Natural / Vintage) is our most popular 3/4 model for kids 9–13 and smaller adults. Full size (SAG001 at 41") suits most teens and adults.
The BabySage BS001 at 36" is a 3/4 size guitar. It is marketed for kids and teens but many petite adults (under ~165 cm) find it more comfortable than a full-size dreadnought. If you have longer arms or big hands, the SAG002 40" cutaway is usually a better fit.
Compact 36" is easy to handle and carry — great for travel and smaller players. 40" with a cutaway makes the high frets easier to reach — fits most adults. 41" dreadnought has the loudest, fullest sound — a standard choice for strumming and performance. If in doubt, 40" is the safest all-around.
Understand the practical differences between acoustic, classical, and electric models.
Classical guitars use nylon strings (easier on fingers), have a wider neck, and sound warmer. Acoustic guitars use steel strings (louder, brighter), have a narrower neck, and match most modern songs. Most beginners pick acoustic for song-learning, but classical is very beginner-friendly too.
Both are solid beginner guitars at the same S$145 price point. SAG002 has a cutaway design that makes lead playing and high-fret chords noticeably easier — we recommend it for 90% of beginners. SAG001 has a full dreadnought body which projects louder, preferred for strumming in groups or worship settings.
Electric guitars are easier to press (lighter strings, lower action) but require extra gear and more patience to practice quietly at home. Most beginners start acoustic because it is plug-and-play. If you know you love rock and will practice, go electric — but expect a slightly steeper setup cost.

Pure acoustic guitars and accessories are sold without warranty. Electronic items (acoustic-electric guitars, electric guitars, amplifiers, pedals, and other powered gear) carry a 3-month limited warranty for manufacturing defects from the date of delivery. Normal wear, drops, humidity damage, unauthorised repairs, and change of mind are not covered. We always try to solve issues first, exchange if the defect is our fault, and refund only as a last resort. See our full Warranty Policy for details.

Where the item is genuinely defective and the fault is ours, we arrange an exchange at our cost. A refund is only offered as a last resort if an exchange is not possible.

Strings go dull slowly — many players do not notice until they try a new set and suddenly everything sounds bright again. Our Sage Phosphor Bronze (SAGEPB11/12) and 80/20 (SAGE802011/12) acoustic sets are popular replacement choices.
The clip-on tuner in your bundle vibrates from the guitar body — no room noise to worry about. Pluck one string at a time and turn the tuning peg slowly. Green = in tune. Flat (low) = tighten the peg; Sharp (high) = loosen. New strings need retuning often (every 5–10 minutes of playing) for the first few days until they stretch.
Check your finger placement first — press right behind the fret wire (not in the middle of the fret), and curl your finger so the tip contacts the string. If buzzing continues across all strings even with good form, the action (string height) may be too low — WhatsApp us photos and we will advise on a setup.
Singapore humidity is generally fine for guitars (50–70% RH). Avoid leaving a guitar in a hot car, near a window, or directly under air-con. A gig bag (our SGB-BLUE/BLACK/GREY) adds protection when not playing. If in doubt, just play it often — a frequently-used guitar stays healthy.
