The good news
Singapore humidity is mostly fine for guitars. The ideal range for acoustic instruments is 45–55% RH, but 55–70% (typical indoor Singapore) is acceptable for solid and laminate tops. You do not need a humidor.
The three things that actually hurt guitars
- Direct sunlight — fades finishes and dries wood unevenly. Keep away from windows.
- Air-con blasting directly — sudden dry spikes. Do not put your guitar right under a vent.
- Hot cars — interior temperatures above 50 degrees C will warp necks and loosen glue. Never leave a guitar in a parked car.
Daily care
- Wipe strings with a dry cloth after playing — sweat corrodes strings fast
- Store in a padded gig bag when not playing (any of our SGB bags work)
- Keep it upright on a stand, not leaning against a wall
When to worry
If frets feel sharp on the side of the neck, or the guitar suddenly buzzes, humidity may be too low. A cheap humidity pack inside the gig bag fixes this.
